Many of us got out of college thinking we were done with this learning thing but sometime in my teaching tenure, I realized that teachers were best if they were as ravenous for new learning as we want kids to be. So what is your plan to ensure that you can and will keep learning what you must know to properly prepare kids for their futures?
I know that I will continue learning once I am out of college because the world keeps changing! I want to be "hip" on all the new technology and in order to do that I need to keep learning about it. Also, how can I expect to show my students new things, if I haven't learned about them myself?! Another way I will continue learning is I want to go back to school in the future to get my masters degree! I don't think we have a choice in whether we want to keep learning or not because we learn something new everyday!
I would love to get my Masters at some point, but after that I want to keep learning by going to presentations and conferences in my area. If I am not able to leave town then there are so many podcasts and free presentations available online. I love learning new things, so I can't see myself stopping anytime soon!
Like many have said, I will keep learning is so many different ways. I plan to teach for a couple years and then go back to school to get my masters degree. This will definetely ensure that I am still learning. However, I will also lcontinue learning through everything that we have been introduced to in this course, for example, podcasts, blogging, conferences, journal articles, literature, and other collegues. I will utilize all of this to make sure that I am continuing my education every day. It is so important for teachers to continue to learn so that they can teach their students up to date and credible information so they arent lagging behind with old news and technologies. Teachers must constantly research, study, and communicate with other collegues to properly prepare children for their futures!
I think the key will be to keep an open mind. Schools always offer in-service trainings & I'm sure there is a lot of valuable information to obtain on-line.
I really don't see it as a plan; more like a need or want. In order to keep things fresh learning needs to be a part of my life. I couldn't imagine teaching the same topics in the exact same way for so many years.
I had always considered that I would continually be learning. Since this class I've found I'm seriously lacking in my knowledge of the internet. My plan to keep learning is to continue the learning and research that I've started since this class. The podcasts and seminars that are available to me are overwelming. I plan to use this to continue my education.
First and foremost reading. I love to read and I will be constantly reading education journals, etc. to check out what's new. Searching the web will also give me some results. I would also like to earn a master's in the coming years so the learning will continue for me. At the very least, collaboration with other teachers in my building can teach me a lot!
I think you of the best ways to keep up with the times is to listen to what the students are talking about as far as new technologies and find out their different ways of learning. I think it is so important to be the best role model for your students by attending workshops or even continue on towards another degree. If we expect the children we teach to understand the world and to better themselves in any way possible, we need to be the best we can be while assisting them in finding their way through the world.
I think it is very important to learn form your students. They are the ones bringing all kinds of new technology into the classroom. I think it is worthwhile to ask them to show this stuff to you, and have them teach you how to use the technology, wesites, or web applications they are using on a daily basis. This is one way to develop a relationship with the students and they may teach you a few things about something new you can integrate into your normal classroom teaching.
Also, as a first year T2T teacher I must say, you really don't know a subject until you teach it. I have learned more about my subject area teaching this past year than I have in any of my previous years as a learner. Looking back at the year i realize that there is still so much more that i can learn about my subject area(nobody is really a know it all). I think, as i learn new and exciting things it is important to share these things with my class in some shape or form in hopes of instilling the same excitement I felt within them.
