TECS290 Summer 2007-Cyndi Danner-Kuhn

Introduction to Instructional Technology

I suspect the first thing we need to do is to Introduce ourselves. If you are a student in my TECS 290 class, tell us where you grew up (town, state), what is you major (i.e. elementary, math, science, etc) and what inspired you to decide you to become a teacher.

If you are a teacher out there in the trenches, tell us where you are in the world, what you teach and of course how long have you taught and what is your favorite thing about using technology in the classroom.

Hi I am Justin Brown. I grew up in Preston, KS, but spent most of my time and went to school in Pratt. My major is Elementary Education with a Special Ed. minor. I always thought about being a high school teacher but worked in Skyline Schools as a paraprofessional for a year and decided that I would enjoy going into special education.

My name is Kara Gerstenkorn. I live here in Hays, but I am traveling a lot right now to help take care of my sick grandmother. The Internet is practially non exsistant in the middle of no where, but I am trying my best to finish/start this class. I am a English and Communications Studies Major, and I am also getting my secondary ed degree. My dream job would be to teach Speech and Debate at a high school around Wichita. I want to become a teacher because it is something I have in my blood. I use to teach my stuffed animals to read as a kid. I just love the satisfaction of teaching someone.

Hi everyone, better late than never. My name is Denise Dolechek. I am a double major in English and History and I will be certified to teach both of these. I graduate in December with my History degree and May with my English degree. I just signed a contract to begin teaching January of 2008 at Great Bend High School. I will be teaching Special Education English and Speech so I am currently trying to come up with new ideas to incorporate in the classroom. I live in Hoisington Kansas, for four years I commuted to campus now I just do internet classes and drive up as need be. I have a daughter Maryn who is 21 months going on 13. I was inspired to become a teacher when I was 25 I moved back to Kansas to finish my degree. I worked as a paraeducator and I quickly discovered that working in education was the first time I was excited to get out of bed in the morning to go to work and wanting to stay late.

Hi All I'm Darla and I grew up on a farm/ranch south of WaKeeney, KS. I graduated from FHSU in 1996 with BS's in Biology and General Science. I worked as a grain merchandiser for a large international corporation for 7 years before I entered the Transition to Teaching Program. I have been married to Tom, a teacher and FB coach, for 16 years. We have 3 children, Kyanne 9, Sheridan 8 and Jackson who will be 4 the end of July.
I teach Biology and Botany/Zoology at Liberal High School in Southwest Kansas which is a very diverse high school of 1200 students. I don't really know what inspired me to become a teacher other than, I like kids and want to show them how fun science can be.
