TECS290 Summer 2007-Cyndi Danner-Kuhn

Introduction to Instructional Technology

Teachers from the Trenches:
I know this Classroom 2.0 is more or less, sorta-kinda a blog. But it sure isn't one in the traditional sense. My students are setting up Blogs of their own and will be posting their blog URL with one last set of article reflection/assignment here.

Could you all share how you are using a blog and the link to it with us. What do you find valuable about blogs, do you use them in your classroom with students? Feel free to comment on my students blogs when they appear. Actually, this blog is the very last assignment in the class so I suspect no URL's will appear here from my students until about the second or third week of July.

TECS 290 Students:
The exact details for this final Project on Blogs is in week seven of Moodle. But, this is where you will post the link to you Blog. And the suggestion was made for everyone to use the SAME tags so RSS feeds work better. So for this one use blogs, pre-service teachers, technology integration, tecs290-s07

What do you mean use a common tag? I am not familiar with tags except for using in for the del.icio.us site.

Thanks for the suggestion, I added the suggestion above for my students and will certainly add that detail to all assignment in the fall. Great idea, just hadn't crossed my mind.

Just type int actual URL beside the name and we can then copy and past. Not sure why the hyperlink thing is working sometime and not others, I have emailed Ning and dug around in their help files, but no answer yet. So I think the best idea is to just give the complete URL with the name. thanks, you have given us so much, you imput is appreciate more than I can say.

Why don't we try the teds290-s07 tag? My blogs are all "down" this weekend, but they are:

http://nicholasfifth.edublogs.org - Blog for my classroom which I "control" but students comment on.

http://mizmercer.edublogs.org - My reflections on teaching, life, and using web 2.0 in the classroom.

http://amercerportfolio.edublogs.org - My professional blogfolio. This is an example of a type of static page blog. It "stickies" or pulls up posts to the front page that have certain tags. If folks want to have more static blogs there are a couple ways to do that in WordPress/edublogs, and I'm happy to share.

http://howtoedublog2.edublogs.org - A guide to setting up a blog in edublogs (which is free)

Se Hace Camino Al Andar is my main teaching blog. I use it for reflecting on my practice and other aspects of my teaching that I want to share. I have another blog, Inquiry, that grew out of an inquiry project I started with The New York City Writing Project. I don't write on that one as often but I use it for reflecting on my experience in bringing technology to my classroom.
I've attempted to bring blogging to my classroom, which is what my inquiry focused on, but the forces didn't really come together as I wanted them to, so I'm regrouping and thinking about next school year.

I understand about the forces not coming together, I have a word press site and I had good intentions of writing on a regular basis, but didn't happen, so I am regrouping too!!!

I'm relatively new to blogging myself, just having started one in December after attending a seminar where Will Richardson said you can't teach it if you don't do it! It's been a very hectic school year for me, but when I do get a chance to post I tend to be reflective or I make note of something I want to have as a resource.

I found that some of my earliest posts--like about body image and girls and boys, and about paper blogging--are my favorites and I wish they weren't waaay back in the archives! I also recently figured out that adding a picture really enhances things, and I'm beginning to feel like I want to photo everything to document it a la Reggio Emilia philosophy schools.

Anyhow, here's my blog: http://bookwyrmish.edublogs.org/

Comments welcome!

I started a blog for the library that would allow students to save favorite books. The site is http://prairiehills.blogspot.com/.

You have done a great job doing book reviews here. I have tagged you to use during the school year. This must have taken a lot of time.
